Caring for your Nails for Your Wedding

A bride has to be the centre of attention at the wedding. Some of the ways of doing this include wearing a stunning gown, wearing good makeup, having a good hairstyle, and doing the nails properly. Even if you will be wearing closed shoes for the wedding, nail care should include both manicure and pedicure. Effective nail care for your wedding is not only about maintaining the right length. It involves getting the nails proper nourishment, avoiding physical damage, avoiding excessive contact with material that is potentially damaging, taking care of the nails before, during, and after the wedding, and keeping the nails hydrated.

An important nail care tip is that you should do your nails the day before the wedding day, but only if it is not possible to get a manicure and a pedicure on the morning of the wedding. If you are applying nail art or if you have acrylic nails, you should care for the nails way hours before the wedding to allow enough time for them to dry.

Nails are made of keratin, which is a hard protein, meaning they are alive. It also means that the nails are capable of being hydrated and being dehydrated. You can hydrate your nails by using readily available moisturizing products. Another way of hydrating nails is massaging them with Vitamin E oil. If you have a problem of excessively dry nails, enlist the services of a professional in manicure and pedicure. Once you have your nails done, you should wear gloves whenever carrying out physical activities before the wedding. If you have artificial nails, you should make sure that they are refilled just before the wedding. If you have acrylic nail, you should keep them polished. However, note that thick polish can cause bubbles and uneven application and you should therefore start with a drop of polish and then progressively dilute it.

Hiring a professional for the nail care has several advantages such as the fact that professionals have the right equipment and the right knowledge. However, if you are not doing nail art, you can care for your nails without outside help. If the nails are too long, you should start by filing them. This way, there will be no risk of breakages. However, note that filing nails after they are more than ¼-inch from the pink part can weaken the nails. You should also not file the nails side to side, as this will weaken them – you should go from the corner towards the centre.

After filing the nails, you should do buffing. This will give them a nice shiny finish since it removes all the ridges from the nail surface. This should start at the cuticle towards the tip and you should apply medium pressure. Next, clean the nails and dry them. Do not use any lotion or oil. Next, apply the base coat. You should leave this to dry for about a minute. A base coat is important in that it prevents chipping and it lengthens the life of the polish. When it comes to polishing, you should use two coats and you should be able to cover the nails in three strokes. You should allow the nails several minutes to dry between the two coats. After the polish has dried, finish by applying a clear top coat.
