Nails: Colour or None

Among the many preparations and decisions that a bride has to make before the wedding day is the choice of make-up including nail embellishments. Nail colour choice is probably the most crucial of these decisions considering the variety of designs and styles available. Most bridal nail colours are neutral but imagine what a splash of nail colour will do to the entire bridal ensemble. Neutral colours are safe and for the most part complement the gown which is traditionally white, cream or off-white. The choice of nail colour will for the most part be dependent on the bride’s taste and style. A bride who is used to wearing colour on her nails will in most cases want to do the same as she gets married.

Recently, gowns are shifting from the traditional neutral colours to full pastels or a hint of some colour. For the daring bride, this is an opportunity to add more colour to the nails using the same additional colours. When considering nail colour for the wedding, choose complementary colours to the gown for the sake of variety. A red gown will be greatly enhanced by full red nails or a lighter variation such as pink. For the same gown, the nails can be done in the traditional neutral colours or a French manicure with some red or pink nail art. Red and black nail art will also be great for a red gown or one with red detail. To tone down a busy and colourful gown, neutral nail colour options are the best.

Most traditional religious or customary weddings are glamorous heralding a marriage union that is just as detailed. Here, the use of nail colour is inevitably easy since they are colourful events as compared to the traditional Christian weddings. Oriental and Islamic brides are usually decorated using bright orange to dark brown henna which also includes the nails. This goes very well with the day’s décor, colour scheme and dress code, an interesting and colourful combination. The traditional Christian weddings are however getting more and more liberal with the use of bright colour schemes which gives room for a variety in the choice of nail colour. A bride may opt to use one or a combination of the colours in the colour scheme to highlight a neutral nail colour.

The day’s colour scheme, venue and decor should be a guideline on the best nail colour to avoid clashing. An elaborate and glitzy start for a marriage union, with bright and exotic flowers screams summer especially on a sunny day necessitating use of colourful nail art. In most cases just a subtle hint of colour will do the trick. It is always advisable for the bride to be simple but elegant but this should not rule out the use of nail colour to brighten up the day. A bride should try out different nail colours to establish the best option; she may actually discover new trends that she can continue using even after getting married.
